Hatsune Miku is the creation of Crypton Future Media, and is the first Japanese Vocaloid that is sold in the market using the Vocaloid 2. She is actually a singing synthesizer, and many cosplayers out there started to "play" as her female character form.

During the making of the Hatsune Miku voice synthesizer, Yamaha and the Crypton Future Media used the voice of a popular Japanese actress, Saki Fujita, where they took in samples of the Japanese phonics, so that the synthesizer will be able to produce words and phrases. Hatsune Miku's voice is powered by the Vocaloid 2 technology, and this vocal series was first introduced in the market on August 31, 2007.

When Hatsune Miku was first released in the market, Yamaha as well as the Crypton Future Media gave only a limited share when it comes to the marketing strategies of this Vocaloid. The makers of the Hatsune Miku voice synthesizer left the entire marketing plan on studios.

Although the makers did not exert too much effort on selling the Hatsune Miku vocal synthesizer, the result was still highly impressive, as it went sold out during the first week of release, making the developers cram to keep up with the demand of the people, that is said to reach an estimate of 3000 reservations.

The Hatsune Miku character has extended its popularity to cosplayers, who have started to dress like her during Cosplay events.
