2ne1 Band: How it Started

2NE1, pronounced "twenty-one", stands for "New Evolution of the 21st Century" and it's a hip-hop/pop Korean band formed in 2009. Their songs "Clap Your Hands", "I Don't Care", "Can't Nobody", "Go Away", "Don't Stop the Music" and "I am The Best" have hit number 1 in South Korea. Consisting of only four members (CL, Minzy, Bom and Dara), the "hip hop warriors"are on a quest to spread the South Korean culture around the world.

2ne1 Don't Stop the Music

2NE1's debut to United States with Black Eyed Peas' will.i.am is delayed because of their new album release, "The Beginning". Also, 2NE1's debut to Japan was postponed until Japan is "stable" again, because of the recent earthquake and tsunami. 2NE1 were in Japan when the earthquake occurred, but left shortly for Seul. Since its debut, 2NE1 was noted for its distinct style. Their inspiring songs left a lasting impression, as they topped music charts for weeks at a time. Overall, 2NE1's music expresses the feelings of woman independence, even if at the beginning they were known as "hip hop warriors". 2NE1's unconventional and impressive style helps promote the "Korean Wave" (the South Korean culture) around the world.

2NE1 Members

2NE1 consists of four members: CL, Bom, Dara, and Minzy.

1. CL of 2NE1 - She's the leader; cited Madonna and Lauryn Hill as her main influence.
   Real name: Lee Chaerin. Born: February 26, 1991 (20 years old).


2. Bom of 2NE1 - Lead vocalist; was influenced by Beyonce and Mariah Carey.
   Real name: Park Bom. Born: March 24, 1984 (27 years old).


3. Dara of 2NE1 - Vocalist; confessed that Uhm Jung Hwa is her role model.
   Real name: Park Sandara. Born: November 12, 1984 (28 years old).


4. Minzy of 2NE1 - Vocalist, main dancer; cited Michael Jackson as her main inspiration.
   Real name: Gong Minji. Born: January 18, 1994 (17 years old).

Fans disputed weight loss versus plastic surgery over 2NE1 Minzy's latest uploaded photo. Minzy's face appears thinner than before, while her eyes look rounder and bigger. Her latest short hairstyle also sparked a series of arguments between netizens.

2NE1 and Big Bang were chosen as top K-Pop bands in France, based on a survey run by the KTO (Korea Tourism Organization). 2NE1 received 65% of the total 3,775 votes, while Big Bang got only 50% of the votes, according to "Research of K-Pop's Popularity in France."

2NE1 CL underwent double eyelid surgery. 2NE1’s leader confessed today that she recently went through a plastic surgery. As one would expect, this was nothing more but an April's Fools joke as the "line" was faked. Good one, CL!

2NE1 released a new album containing original Japanese songs and also the Japanese versions of Korean hits "Fire" and "I Don't Care." This is their first album being released in Japan, but what's weird about this is that 2NE1 released their new album on the SAME DAY as Big Bang's new album "ALIVE." Apparently, the two biggest groups of YG Entertainment are in some sort of family competition.

Will.i.am and 2NE1 work and party in Seoul. The famous artist and producer, will.i.am tweeted that he is in Seoul, Korea. While promoting Intel's Ultrabook, the artist meet up with the foxy ladies of 2NE1 and partied at a club.

2NE1's newest music video Hate You stirred up much controversy among the Japanese fans who accused it of being anti-Japanese in nature, because of an exploding nuclear reactor and a beast (who dies in the end) having a red dot on his forehead (the Japanese flag). In this clip, four heroines (supposed to be the 2NE1 members) fight against an evil monster to save the world from devastation.

The new 2NE1 hit "I am The Best" ranked #2 as the "Most Viewed" video on Youtube and took the #1 position as soon as it was released on all Korean music charts.

2ne1 Fashion Style

By now, you are probably familiar with 2NE1 style: neon highlighters, black leather, shiny metals, acid-washed denim and the most outrageous, bright, clothes one could imagine.

The girls mixed the hip-hop style with heavy metal and futuristic designs and a tough rebel feeling. And, if you think that off-screen they wear more normal clothes, you would be wrong. Without any doubt Korea's fashion icons, 2NE1 were noticed immediately for their fresh, original style. 2NE1 seem to be on a quest to prove that women can both feminine and powerful at the same time.

2NE1's Minzy wears clothes that are a bit more feminine, such as bright-colored tops, leggings or stone-washed skinny jeans. Bellow, Minzy is looking more mature than ever with her unique fashion style (designs by Jeremy Scott).

Known for her bold personality, CL often wears cropped tops with attention-grabbing statements, acid washed jeans and denim jackets. When 2NE1 performed at "Hyundai I30 I-Fiesta," kick-ass CL wore a Studded Oxford Top (an intriguing piece of clothing by Ground Zero), while Dara, who favors printed leggings or tights, was wearing some red metallic jeans from Cristophe Decarnin's 2010 Spring/Summer Collection.

2NE1 just released the teaser photos for the Japanese version of "Go Away." The girls wore clothes from Jeremy Scott's 2011 Autumn/Winter Collection (Candy Flip). Bellow, Bom is wearing her signature outfit with a lightning bolt and a tiny coat tail at the back. Bom favors monochromatic colors and tops with exaggerated shoulders.
