The CGI (computer generated imagery) have come a long way, but a real prop looks better to me. Besides, imagine the amount of work and love put into the assembly of the Nostromo ship model in the first place!
I'm glad to see Nostromo so up close, with so many details and I am grateful to "The Prop Store" that this masterpiece of modeling wasn't lost to time.
Nostromo's Story in Alien
In the 80s science fiction movie, Nostromo is a commercial towing spaceship on a return trip to Earth, hauling a refinery and sever people in stasis. Woken by the ship's computer, the crew lands Nostromo (detached from the refinery) to a planetoid to investigate a transmission of unknown origin.
The origin of the S.O.S. was an alien ship where one of the crew members is left unconscious and brought back to the Nostromo. What happens from there you already know - and if you don't, I don't want to spoil it for you. If you're a science fiction fan, get the movie now and watch it; it's a classic!
The Restoration Project of The Original Model
The Nostromo from the original Alien movie is being restored by its original modelers at "The Prop Store" in London. Check out phases 1 through 4 for detailed explanations on how they do it. Pay close attention to each phase of restoration of this incredible piece of motion picture history. Overall, they did a pretty good job reassembling a ship whose parts exploded in the cold vacuum of space, wouldn't you agree?
